DDLab RPI readme: September 2024 update thanks to Dave Burraston at noyzelab ------------------------------------------------------------------- ddlabz12-RPI-Debian12-32.tar.gz ddlabz12-RPI-Debian12-64.tar.gz available at http://www.ddlab.org/download/ddlab_compiled_Sept2024/ and mirror sites. unpack to give the executables (binaries) ddlabz12-RPI-Debian12-32 ddlabz12-RPI-Debian12-64 and GNU_GPL_3.txt Dave says: These binaries were compiled for both 32 & 64 bit ARM on Raspberry Pi 400 running Debian 12 Kernel version 6.6. Still fairly slow, takes easily 4 to 6 seconds on defaults for v2k3 boa field. But! I tried the 32 bit compile on Kali under Xfce desktop again [https://xfce.org/] and it can render in 0.01 secs or less for the same default fields! So I still highly recommend Kali [https://www.kali.org/] over RPI OS for running DDLab as it runs so much faster, the speed increase is incredible. Alternatively, people could try Xfce or other lightweight desktop in whichever RPI Debian flavour they use which might help [I still not had time to try it]. Kali 64 bit should also run the 64 bit binary, but I have not tested this. Any RPI compatible 32/64 bit Debian 12 OS equivalent to the version above 'should' in theory be able to run their respective binaries. To run DDLab: from the directory with the DDLab file, enter the name of the executable preceded by ./ and followed by & for example ./ddlabz12-RPI-Debian12-64 & Alternatively, first change directory to "ddfiles" then enter the name of the executable preceded by ../ and followed by & This will keep files generated by DDLab in the ddfiles subdirectory. You can recompile DDLab for RPI/Debian 12 OS yourself from the source code using Makefile_linux_z11, available at http://www.ddlab.org/download/ddlab_code_Sept2024/ and mirror sites. DDLab would appreciate news of alternative compiles. --------------------------------------------------- for possible font issues: refer to dd_linux_readme_z12.txt
